This policy explains what personal data Banking on Bitcoin (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit this website, why we collect it and what your rights are. We have tried to keep it plain and short. We collect as little as we can.

What this site is
Banking on Bitcoin is a static educational website. There are no user accounts, no comments, no forms that store your data and no online store. We do not currently run a newsletter. If we add one in the future, we will update this policy before collecting any email addresses for it.
What data we collect
Hosting and server logs. The site is hosted on Cloudflare. When you request a page, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address, the page requested, your browser and device type, and the time of the request. This is needed to deliver the site, keep it secure and protect it from abuse. Cloudflare has its own privacy policy that governs its handling of this data.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used, for example which articles are read and where visitors come from. It relies on cookies described in our Cookie Policy. We use Google Consent Mode v2 together with a cookie banner. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics is off by default and only switched on if you accept. Elsewhere, including the United States, analytics is on by default and you can reject it in the banner or later through the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. Google may receive information such as your IP address and browsing activity on the site when analytics is allowed.
Email you send us. If you email us at hello@banking-on-bitcoin.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to respond to you and to handle corrections or enquiries.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data, and we do not need you to give us any in order to use the site. Please do not include financial account details, passwords or recovery phrases in any email to us.
Why we use your data
- To deliver and secure the website (hosting logs).
- To understand which content is useful and improve it (analytics, with your consent where required).
- To answer your messages (email).
Where the law requires a legal basis, such as under the GDPR, we rely on our legitimate interest in running and securing the site, on your consent for analytics cookies in the regions where analytics is off until you accept, and on our legitimate interest in replying to your messages.
Sharing your data
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers needed to run the site, currently Cloudflare for hosting and Google for analytics, and where we are legally required to. These providers may process data in the United States and other countries.
How long we keep data
Hosting logs and analytics data are kept by the respective providers according to their own retention settings. In Google Analytics we aim to keep the shortest retention period that meets our needs. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with your request and for a reasonable period afterward, then deleted.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, these rights come from the GDPR and related laws. If you are a California resident, the CCPA and CPRA give you similar rights to know about and delete personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information.
To exercise any right, email hello@banking-on-bitcoin.com. We may need to verify your identity first. Because we do not have accounts, we may only be able to find data you have sent us directly. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
